Uranium Is Not Used in Moroccan Lamps

The use of uranium in Moroccan lamps might sound like an unusual idea when you think about it. However, uranium has often been used in some yellow glass materials to give it that yellow appearance. This has particularly been used in lamps. A small portion of uranium is often added to create a bright yellow appearance or even a red appearance if it is combined with enough lead as the color is being added. However, most Moroccan craftsmen will no longer use uranium to give the glass surfaces on their lamps a yellow appearance.

The reasons why you are not likely to find uranium in most of these Moroccan lamps comes from the way how uranium is very difficult to obtain these days due to its radioactive properties. This material is well-controlled in todayís industry and has to be kept safe from outside sources. At the same time, the amount of uranium that would be used in some of these lamps is nowhere near as intensive as what you might expect. However, uranium for lamp glass can become harmful when sandpaper is used to polish off the surface of the lamp. The residue can be inhaled with ease if you use this. It is a real problem that could pose some kind of a risk on your body. Thatís a big reason why you will not be likely to see uranium in your lamp even if it is used at a minimal amount to create a yellow color on the lampís body.
